Notes
55 deg and cool. Good conditions for a workout.
Workout: 2 miles warmup, 20x1/2 mile alternating 5:50 and 5:30 pace, 1-2 miles cooldown.
Going into this workout, I was confident that I'd be able to get it done, but I knew it wasn't going to be easy. The first five miles went well and had no problems hitting the paces. In fact, the paces were about 1-2 seconds per mile faster than 5:50/5:30. On miles 7 and 8, I got a little lazy on the recovery portion and was a little slower than 5:50 pace. Things were starting to get a little tough at this point of the workout, so that it why I was getting lazy. I then told myself to focus and run strong over the last couple miles, which I did.
I ended up averaging 5:50 and 5:28 pace for the 1st/2nd half mile segments, and finished the 10 mile tempo in 56:28, 5:39 avg pace.
I ran this same workout 12 days out from CIM last year and averaged 5:53/5:33 (57:12, 5:43 avg pace).
