Notes

Weather: Warm at 66% and windy (10mph headwinds) in the 2nd half of the course.

My plan going in was to run 5:45ish feeling good and comfortable through the Newton hills and then run strong over the last 5 miles.

It was warm at the start and the sun was beating down on us while we waited for the gun to go off. For the first few miles I ran at a comfortable pace. The first mile was under 5:40, but that was because it's mostly all downhill. The next three miles were right around 5:42ish, which still felt comfortable and steady. I then settled into around 5:45-5:47ish pace up to around mile 15. At this point I was still feeling okay, but could tell that the legs were starting to feel slightly heavy. On the last half mile of mile 16, I opened up on the downhill and dropped a 5:32 split. I did not expect to run the mile split that fast and I'm not sure if that took a lot out of the legs. I don't think so because my legs were already accumulating some fatigue from all the early downhills.

In the Newton hills, my pace slowed and I was only able to hit low 6:00 pace for miles 17-19. My hamstrings then started to cramp which caused my pace to slow even more to 6:30ish pace. At all the fluid stations after 16 miles I took in gatorade and water to try to prevent the cramping.

Things started to feel really tough after 19 miles. Over the last 6-7 miles, I basically just tried to maintain a decent pace without the wheels completely falling off. I finished in 2:37:23 for 90th Overall.
