Indy 3k

Upon arriving to Indianapolis my first impressions included waking up in the car, looking out the window, and noticing a 3 legged black lab staring at us, the fact that the track was inside a big bubble dome, and going to the one stalled very dank bathroom, and finding out that the meet was already running 25 min behind schedule

We waited around all day, did a 10 min shake out, a 10 min warm up with Noel. I didn't do the greatest job of eating but I think part of that was because I was really nervous and i was helping with split taking. So by the time my race started ~5pm I was kinda hungry/a little light headed. Julia joined me on my warm up (thanks pal!) so I didn't have to do it alone, but we warmed up too early. I thought there was 2 heats of the men's 3k but there were 4

It seemed anyone could enter into the race so there were high schoolers, really young kids, some 30+ year olds. I got to the line and there was a middle schooler seeded in front of me and I was like wat no way. We start out and I go out with the top 4 girls because today is the day to break 11 and I didn't want to get boxed in. The first half was pretty good, all even splits. Right where I needed to be and feeling pretty comfortable. The top 4 girls started to slow down in the second half (and so did I- running more like 44 or 45's) so I worked on reeling them in. Julia was lying/rounding up my splits so it was helpful because it made me go faster. With a lap to go I knew I wasn't going to PR if I didn't really push it in, so I passed the 4th place girl and closed in 39 seconds.

I had an excellent cheering squad, it was very very helpful to hear Julia shouting splits and Muneeb ran over to the opposite corner of the track where no one was cheering. This was definitely a big squad effort for me to break 11 and I really appreciated it.

The best parts of the day included watching Julia run a very impressive mile PR, Olan running a great 3k and being lifted up, and Josh Mollway crushing his under 9:00 goal.

Followed by a good car ride and me inhaling a big beef from Portillo's. 10:58 isn't a huge PR but breaking 11 has been my goal since this time last year so I was very happy. Hoping I can take this race and get some more good workouts in and PR one more time at club relays
