Notes
The day was kinda weird. I started out setting up the Community Center for the Symphony, and then doing a gig in Reno. So I was moving gear or standing around for about 5 hours.
My hope was to grab some food right after the gig and do the run. It took a frustratingly long time to find a place where I could park the truck and trailer, and then get to the start. Rancho San Rafael park closes at 5, and has a sign that they will lock the gate. So I had to park elsewhere. (Ended up at the disc golf parking lot by Virginia and McCarren.)
My goal was to run part of the Silver State 50/50 course. If nothing else, to see how tough the hills are and to see if what I am training on is appropriate. I had the course loaded into my watch.
I found myself struggling at times to follow the course. There were turn offs I missed, I had to back track in places. The first mile was probably 90 seconds slow just due to trying to find a way to get on to the course and make sure I was doing it ok.
As I climbed it got colder and windier. Probably at 5 or 6 miles in, I walked for a while so I could change from a t-shirt to a long sleeve shirt and get a hat out.
At 6.25 I hit snow. Probably 2-4 inches. It was actually decently runnable. But I would not have enjoyed doing several miles on it.
As I'm coming back down, it was getting dark. I turned on my headlamp soon after mile 8. The last 3.5-4 miles were in the dark. I stumbled a few times, but never fell. I was definitely running slower cuz I couldn't see all the rocks. Even with my light in revenge mode.
At the end, I did the thing where I jogged around the parking lot to get to the total I wanted. Yeah, I was that guy today...
Overall didn't feel too bad. I think there are a couple courses in my rotation that are good matches to what I ran today. I think a little above where I was there are 3 pretty steep miles judging by other people's logs. I'll come back later and run to the summit and back just to see what there is.
