Notes

Celebrating the freedom of our nation with 5k on the roads of Mandan at 8 AM. I measured the course short on my watch by ~.05 miles but who really gives a rip, I'm calling this an official PR. Considering I had to run on an island most of the race, I am quite pleased with my performance. The first mile opened up with the usual mob of people sprinting the first half-mile, but I just relaxed and let myself build into a nice tempo with Max alongside me. By the end of the first mile, the mob faded, and at mile two I started picking people off with a nice tailwind. By this point I was well behind Logan and Tom, but I had dropped Max so I was officially on Sam island. The last mile was straight into a headwind which definitely hurt, but I just pushed through with what I had and finished strong. I felt good, but I know I could run faster with someone to push me. Afterwards I got a photo op with the race champion and local running douche/phenom, Beau Brannen. I don't really know the guy but he wanted a photo with me and Max and Tom and Logan. BHS legends. Now for a day of relaxation and margaritas.
