Notes

First 45 minutes with Ingrid on the trails at the north entrance, then she was kind enough to let me run home and we could pick up the pickup later. I ran the whole trail back to the south entrance, then the 3.2 hills miles home from there. I was really worried how my legs would hold up after I blew up a few weeks ago doing a similar distance. I didn't feel the soreness and tightening in my hips until the last mile or so. I felt really smooth on the trails, and I was actively telling myself the whole trail "slow, slow, slow, comfortable, don't start rolling right now, see if you can do the whole thing", and so next time I can push a little more and see how it goes. I was holding around 8:20-8:30 on the trail comfortably, and goal race pace in July for 27 trail miles is 8:00, so things are looking good right now. Would up with a decent blister after this. Starting to wonder if I should get some real trail shoes and not just the New Balance Minimus.

I also decided to practice fueling today. After Ingrid and I finished, I stopped, chatted, and took 4 decent sized bites of apple and pounded some water before starting up again. When I reach the end of the trail, I took another few mouthfuls of water from a water fountain before continuing. My goal was to force myself to stop and fuel and break up my rhythm. Turns out, a quick rest actually left me feeling more refreshed than if I had just kept going.
