Notes

Well this is my update for the whole summer. I kept all of my miles logged and I'm putting in all of the runs today (August 16/17). I started feeling my shin right before the Run 4 Robyn at the end of May so I raced that and then took the next 2 weeks off (they coincided with Vacation Bible School). After a week off I ran 4 miles to see how I felt and decided I needed another week so I took another week off. I also got pretty sick for a day during that time so it was a good relaxing break for my body and mind. It was also nice to spend more time with the staff then. After that I had 5-6 weeks of really chill <30 miles of running. I did a lot of running with Ingrid and a lot of sprinting with ACG at camp. It was again a nice break for my body and a real chance to enjoy running. Then right around the time of my birthday I started to amp up the mileage without fear of injury. I told myself that I needed to know if I could train or not by the time the season start so I started the build up. I don't believe I added more than 6 miles a week any of the weeks and this week I finally hit the 50 that I was looking for. I still take my Sabbath Sunday off every week. I believe that I may actually be very well in shape this year compared to previous years because the last couple of years I have really really struggled to hit mileage during Christmas in July and North Dakota Wildlife Federation weeks at Camp. I have also been plagued by sickness during the first 2 weeks of August the last couple of years. Last year I was able to do a few tempos before the season started, but this year my mileage is more consistent and better. I think this season will be good if I do everything right. It has been a few weeks since I did any core/upper/lower body work, so this week I will start with that to be ready to go (hopefully). God has blessed me not with success, but the ability to thoroughly enjoy what I do and where I do it. Running this summer has been fun and I am thankful. I only pray that God can bless me with joy this year. Success is not important, but having fun with what I do is.
