RACE

Notes

DINO 15K at Fort Ben. Weather breezy and colder at start--maybe 45. Great race. Goals were: do not set course worst record; do not DFL; break 2 hours if possible. Didn't; didn't; did!

Almost exactly even split for first and second halves: first half was in 59:01, finished in 1:57:51. Got some mile splits for 2nd half:

5-6: 13:23 (included creek crossing)

6-7:12:18

7-8: 13:17

8-9: 12:39

last bit: 3:16

Stopped a few times to take pictures, also chatted to aid station folks. There were 2 women behind me from the first loop of Lawrence Creek Trail--one probably dropped out, because I never saw her again. The rest of the field was too far away to even see, until near the end of the second loop of LT. Then I passed two groups of two, one of which re-passed me and finished ahead, the other stayed behind. So I was both safe early on from the dread DFL and got to pass a couple of people near the end. And finished in under 2 hours. Nice.

Wore: CW-X compression tights, Indy Runners long sleeve, MC bra, Paul's PI vest (carried camera, small water bottle, gel shots, and gel), white Mini hat. Lubed up with Bliss, both feet and hoo-ha, no problems there.

Water/food: ate a slice of PB toast and 1 cup coffee before leaving house; had TLC pumpkin granola bar before start, was starting to get hungry even so at start. Ate a gel shot every 20 minutes or so; Gatorade at 1 stop, a little water at the other 3. Gel at 1:20. Drank maybe 4-5 ounces from 6 oz. bottle, usually a sip with the shots and some with the gel. Probably not enough water--nachos tasted very very salty at end, which can be a sign that electrolytes are fine to overdone while hydration is low. Drank down some extra water then.

Lovely day with some prime running, not wiped out at finish but damned if I can see where I could have gone faster.
