RACE

Notes

DINO Eagle Creek, supposed to be 5K but always shows up short. When I suggested to Paul that perhaps it was spotty GPS coverage or the winding trail that made it Garmin up short, he said there was no way he ran a full 3.1 miles in 23 minutes. Oh, well. The official results will be different, as they'll show a full 5K and start time will be gun--so more time but over more distance for a better pace. Confusing, but there it is.

Course started out drier than last year, but near end was long mud field that was hard to get through. Also, hampered near start by pile ups at obstacles that really didn't need to be super-slowly navigated. I passed people at the same point as last year, the downhill with a big log at the bottom. Honestly, folks--just hop over it!

Much better placement than last year. Don't have official results yet, but I passed a lot of slower people, and few of them re-passed me later when I slowed a bit. Will be interesting to see if there was much progression.

Wore C9 tights over NB shorts, white MC bra, Craft nice top, Celestial jacket, red BR hat, black gloves. Hands cold for almost 10 minutes today. Otherwise, a bit warm by end, did take off gloves after 2 miles.

Garmin splits:

12:38 (almost right on mile marker on ground)

13:32 (Garmin showed 1.91 when crossed mile 2 marker)

10:50 for last .82 mile, for pace of 13:18.

UPDATE: Race director swears course is 3 to 3.05 miles, and Garmins cut off the corners.
