Salem Art Fair Race, Really fun and nice race with Valerie at a place of one of my earliest memories. I was in good shape. Got there the evening before in 94 degree heat, and practiced on the hill in the 2nd mile. Tried to figure out the course best I could, and figured out how and where to get a good parking place. Perfect weather, a pretty course, and nice participants and volunteers. I was frustrated with running on grass and the bark dust trails, and think they slowed me down, but they were nice on my feet and lower legs. My time was slow, and I was beat by an 85 yr. old lady who was a nice and very interesting woman. I talked to her for a while at the awards ceremony. Inspiring. The only problem I had was a group of people I was constantly having to pass, and then they would pass me. Dealing with them took a lot of my concentration away from concentrating on my own speed, planning, form, energy level, etc. All in all , a great experience. Valerie ran the whole race - no walking - and won a prize of new Brook running shoes. Missed Renee'.
