Definitely feeling myself get back in to shape. Although not even close to my old high school self, I can feel the progress happening. According to my app, I ran 3.1 miles in 27:23. This is pretty great considering my only goal is to run under 30 minutes. Today solidified something I've been realizing. It takes me about 1-1.5 miles to get into the run, and then I start to pick it up. Therefore, I probably have to run about a mile before the race to warm up. I keep starting my runs as-is and I know I shouldn't be. Last year, I ran the Dasher Dash in 24:58 with an 8:02/pace. I had been out of cross country for about a month. Although I did not have a great senior season, I was definitely in shape for that 5k. Tragically, I placed 4th in the age group when they gave medals to the top 3. It was pretty disappointing. I thought I would come back this year, in shape, and claim a third-place win, I should probably expect sixth place at best. i assume more people will be in this race, and statistically a greater amount of young, fast girls who can run it with an 8:00/mile pace or better. Or no one will run it because of the bad weather!! Who knows!
