It was on this repetition I slightly strained/pulled my hamstring.

I was sprinting on an unoccupied football field. The field is not currently in use as the there were no markers on the field. Consequently they let the grass get pretty long.

So I am trying to spring in this rather tall grass and I am thinking two things as I sprint: Drive your legs into the grounds and focus on moving your arms fast (I heard your legs will follow you arms sometimes if you move your arms fast). At around th 30 yard line (70 yards into the sprint) I feel my hamstring in my right leg tighten. I go about 10 more yards at a slightly reduce pace before stopping.

Two takeaways from this for me

1. No need for me to be all out sprinting. On some of the earlier strides I went 95% and that is what a stride is supposed to be, a sprint, but not an all out sprint. Why I felt the need to go all out is beyond me.

2. Don't do strides in long grass on an uneven surface. At St. Mary's College I did some fartleks with Joe way back in October or November with Joe and was able to almost go all out on those turf fields with the short grass. Those are great. However longer grass makes it very hard to maintain good form especially when sprinting. Its not as bad as running on sand, but strides should be done in short grass or a paved surface in my opinion. For example trying to drive your feet into the ground for power on long grass is just awkward.
