Friggin' terrible race. Like a damn rookie, started way too fast, and paid for it in spades starting at about mile 5.5. Amazing melt down from there. Oh well, lesson learned. Smarter at the start, and I have a new goal race for next year.
Saw Andy Riegler at mile one, his family was handing out oranges and water on their front lawn. That was pretty cool. Rob VanderLeest caught me at about mile 8 too, we ran for a while together, I was starting to feel better again, and he was working pretty hard. I ended up dropping him at the hill by Cole's Bakery. Nikki finished 2nd in her age group, so it sounds like she's running well. Rob and she are running Chicago this fall too. It'll be their first.
Met Kirsten (zoom-zoom), Tony (Mulks), and Vikki (resalia) before and after the race. It was really cool to finally meet some RA folks IRL. We need to work a Michigander meeting race sometime in the next year, and it sounds like the Martian Marathon could be it. We shall see...
