Tonight's run was crazy. I got there at 5:30, started running at 5:40 or so, and got a few nice miles in before I needed a head lamp. It was dark, but I know the trails enough not to bother taking the headlamp out of my pocket. Trails were wet and soggy, but no rain.

Got back to the parking lot to find Ian, Shauna, Jim, Jeff, and Evan (whose mother had dropped him off - it was his first night time trail run.) It was also raining. The rain came off and on, but other than things being flooded and running through 4 inch puddles (which are nothing compared to the river we usually waded across when it was warmer) the run went really well. Then it started to sleet and hail. That was interesting.

Then there was a lightnight flash. We thought it might be a transformer blowing, because it was over the ocean and took a good 18-20 seconds for the thunderclap, but boy was it a good one. Wouldn't have wanted to be a boat under that. Nothing to worry about though; that's pretty damn far away and we only had 15 to 20 minutes left to run. Well, 5 minutes later, Evan's knee was aching and most of the group decided to head straight back because it was starting to get miserable. Jeff wanted to continue running so I joined him.

Then another lightning flash came. It was followed by a thunderclap less than 2 seconds later. Wowzas! At least we were in the trees so we didn't get blinded like the others. We turned around and high tailed it back to the cars, though. I don't like to run in lightning that is that close if I can help it.

Very satisfying run, all in all...
