Notes

Report to follow on the blog - I went out exactly where I wanted to be, and was in the lead pack for about 6 or 7 miles. Right before the half marathon turn off point I started to fade a bit to run at my pace. I went through 10 miles at 58:31 and the half marathon at 77:24, and ran with Chuck Engle for most of the first 15 miles until my calf tweaked a little. I slowed up the pace a little there, and then the wheels really started to fall off. I stopped to piss at 21.5 and 23.5. At 24 there was a narrow bridge where construction hadn't finished and most of the half marathon walkers were great and made it easy to run by, but one obese woman was really rocking out and it didn't occur to her that the 6 guys running by might be the precursor to yet more runners and she managed to punch me in the nuts as she swung her arm. This was then followed not to much further on by a half dozen hair pin turns to go down a concrete ramp. Wasn't a fan. I was pretty miserable at this point anyway. I managed to get out of my slump a little in the last mile and a half but all in all, I wasn't in the sort of shape to do what I wanted and had I gone out easier I'd have had a better chance at a good time.

I still wouldn't have changed my strategy, though. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
