Chemo Pond

Notes

Ran the perimeter of the lake to measure the shoreline. As soon as I stepped on the ice I spooked an eagle out of a tree over the house, which swooped out over the lake about 10 feet over my head. It wasn't the big one, though; this one only had about a 4 foot wingspan. Another eagle flew out after the first one a little further on but it was higher up. I actually saw one of the younger eagles hovering about 30 or 40 feet up in the air above me in one of the coves near their eyrie, so that's 3 eagles in one run. First time that's happened.

Most of the inlets were frozen solid, but the one on the far side of the pond was open water so I gave it a pretty wide berth. I also found a hot spot across from my mother's cove where I almost went through, since I wasn't expecting that. There was about a half inch of ice over it and it was about a foot around with open water bubbling up, maybe about a 10 foot circle with thinner ice.

The wind was very tough to run in, pushing me back when running into it. My plan of running the shoreline also made it more difficult than yesterday's run because all the snow that's out there was collected into a few of the coves which were very tough to run through. It was much easier on the sheer ice in the middle of the lake.
