My plan called for a long run but it was so sunny and nice out that I went to the track instead since I love doing track work in warmer weather. I wasn't sure what I was going to do but when I got there, I took off thinking I would just do a fast MP 5K. But the first lap was a lot faster than my MP and felt good so, in honor of the Olympic Trials occurring in our neck of the woods, I put the hammer down a bit and changed to a 5K time trial but not all out. Ended up running the 5K in 20:11, with 1600 splits of 6:33, 6:25, 6:28 and :45 for the last 200. Towards the end I picked it up to see how close I could get to sub-20. I'm pretty sure with a little more speedwork and faster first couple of laps, I'll break 20 later this summer on the track. I might have to look for a 5K road race (I'm not a big fan of them since they hurt from the get-go) to see if I can break 20. It has been a while (I'm guessing 25+ years) since I did that. I think my PR is somewhere around 18 minutes but those days are long gone. All in all, a fun workout.
