Notes
I am extremely displeased with the whole race experience. This is the second HM I have ran that Athlete's Edge has put on and they have both been TERRIBLE experiences! There was ZERO Gatorade on the course. There was supposed to be some every two miles according to the race brochure and the instructions that came in the packet. The aid stations were ill manned with preteens who were just sitting there watching the runners go by. The only good station was one that TNT did. They were 100% supportive. At the first aid station (mile 2) the one girl was standing on the runners side of the small table filling cups and saw us coming but did not move. Ugh!
The course was also vaguely marked. At mile 3 we almost made a wrong turn and then at mile 5.5 apparently we were supposed to make a turn somewhere but we missed it. They marked the course with cones interspersed here and there. No arrows on the cones or in chalk on the road telling us which direction to turn in, nothing. We made it back to the course by chance but had accidently cut off about 1.75 miles. Being the good honest people that we are (I was running with a friend) we tried our hardest to make up those miles. I'm sure this had something to do with my "internal upset" as well.
I started to feel shitty at mile 8 but had to wait until mile 12 to be able to get a hold of anyone to tell them to come pick me up because there were no CB people on the course at all like they had said there would be in the race packet.
BTW, I pulld my first DNF due to diarrhea that started at about mile 7.
I'm so glad I didn't pay for this race but I'm through with doing HM's with Athlete's Edge. If they ever get their act together I'll try it again but from now on, I'm going elsewhere.
