I started with a 9:57 first mile, and then averaged 8:29 for the rest of the run. I set a goal to hit sub 9's on every mile. That was a challenge because there is a two mile stretch in the middle of the out and back (4 miles total) that is loaded with up and down hills of the steep variety. I've usually slowed up on that section. Each mile that was in the 8's was a make, and I went after the next one. It actually wasn't too tough, as I'd just front load the pace on the harder miles so I could easily make it. As typical, anytime you run faster the run becomes easier. This was the easiest that I've done on the long out and back course.
