Grandma's Marathon. 2:46:57.

This race was kinda the exclamation point on an absolutely terrible season of racing. Felt good and was running with Andrew the first 10 miles but didn't exactly feel invincible. Marathons are hard and at CIM in 2019 I didn't feel great even for a tiny part of the race and the end result was great. Figured it could just be tough the whole time but I could handle it. Hit halfway in 1:15:43, which was actually a little slower than I would have liked, and while I maybe the sub 2:30 wouldn't happen maybe I could at least get a solid 2:31-2:33 under my belt which would at least be a turn in the right direction. However around 16-17 was when the legs started to go enough and mentally the fight was just gone that I knew it was going to be a rough day. With a few miles to go I figured I could still run sub 2:40 but did some math and figured I'd need to run 6:40's to obtain and I didn't feel like that was possible with how my legs felt at the moment. Suffered the last 5 miles.

Not going to run a marathon for a probably at least a year, likely the next would be in the fall of 2023. I had a long marathon break from Boston 2018 to CIM in 2019 and that worked out well. To say I've gotten sick of marathons would be accurate and clearly that frustration started to affect my will to race and compete. In the mean time, I'll probably take 10 days to 2 weeks off. I'd like to have a season of running not focused on a particular race, I just want to race shorter stuff when I feel like it. I'm guessing that could include road miles, 5k/10ks. Maybe even some cross country races. Just something to switch up the training, it is overdue.
