Martian Meteor 10k, 33:24 for 5th place

Not a great performance but not bad. One of my biggest goals was to just race better than at Shamrock. It was extremely windy this morning (16 mph winds with gusts up to 45 mph) which didn't help but temps were pretty much perfect and it was sunny. Thought about getting out between 5:15 and 5:20 and see if I could hold that and maybe cut down the last mile. Well, got out in 5:26 and it felt alarmingly rough. It wasn't one thing in particular, just felt hard. Just tried to keep my form good and press as long as I could regardless of pace. It was nice to have someone with me the first 4 miles. Definitely helped keep me more in a competitive mindset. The course was not too bad but was a bit winding especially towards the end and there were not a ton of tangents to surge on. After halfway I was hurting but told myself I'd regret it later if I didn't continue to press. Tried to hold onto 4th place as long as I could but he slowly strung away from me the last 2 miles. Split 5 miles in the same time I ran 8k at Shamrock and figured it would be a respectable day if I just held on one more mile. Finished and wasn't super thrilled nor disappointed. I set out to get the awful taste of Shamrock out of my mouth and I accomplished that. I also was able to push through the hurt even even cut down a bit which is encouraging. I had some good workouts and long runs after Shamrock and it was nice to see it pay off a bit. Next up is the Flying Pig Half. Gotta show up and show out for that one.

Side note: 4th place talked to me after the race and it turns out he's the brother of beer mile world record holder Corey Bellmore lmao.
