Well that sucked. Today’s New Bedford Half kicked my ass. Going into a race dehydrated is not my smartest move, after spending most of the night dealing with GI issues and boy was it hot. After hurling at mile 5 I was ready for the first time ever go get my first DNF. Dougernation was running low today. However about ½ way Glen Gave me a high five and picked my sprit up. I then got some what of a second wind and the endrolights and sport beans started kicking in well those that were left in my system. By the way they look the same coming out as they do going in just a little more smashed up. For me the finish line is about mental strength and raw determination. Usually I’m trying to will my left knee to do what I want or the right hip / Si joint to behave. Today knee was very sore from 3mile point on. I was running with Iron Judy and when I stepped down the pain that shot up my leg was incredible. At that point a part of me quit but mainly it was my poor nutrition that ultimately caught up with me. For the 2nd yr I leave New Bedford with my body and Sprit broken to face my demons. Prior today I had a good feeling of where my training was at and thought I had realistic expectations of a 5-5:30 finish at Boston this yr. For the first ever I have been without the brace and feeling good. Hell yesterday I was playing soccer and chasing my nephew around and really feeling good about today. Now despair and doubt are all I can think of.
