Notes

William O'Brien trail "10 mile".

All in all, it was a good race. It was everything I expected - but I wanted more.

I came into the race with a good taper (Thu - Sat), very good sleep the two nights before, and good diet. However, my head was not into racing, until about 0.03 miles in when I saw I was in 4th with (therefore) a shot at 3rd and a medal. I lost about 10 sec during the 2nd mile on course marking / getting lost, and the 3rd place guy grew his lead. By mile 4 I could never see him anymore. Even still, I stuck at it. One never knows if he will fade or miss a turn. There was another guy who was on my tail for like 5+ miles - mile 3 to 9. However, I'd pull away on the hills (both up & down, I think) and there were many of those in the back 2/3 of the race. He never passed me.

If I were at my pre-quarantine weight (i.e. about 10 lbs lighter) and running confidently (I am running pretty well), then I may have taken a few minutes off my time and given the 3rd place guy a good run for his money.
