Notes

This was the first time I ran this race, and the course was kind of ridiculous. I don't know that I've ever run a route with so many turns in it. It wraps through the Owens Emergency Preparation training center, and basically weaves through all the various training areas there.

The weather didn't really help my cause for this run. Luckily, the race started early, at 8:00, but the humidity was literally 100% when we were starting, so it was very wet and hard to cool down.

Was hoping to finish with maybe 30 seconds of my sole to sole time (21:57) and I came within 15, so I was pretty happy with the result. Didn't run my best race though, going out a little too fast and then dying toward the end, per my usual MO.

Honestly was surprised at how fast the first mile was, as lately I've felt like my endurance has been getting better at the cost of my legs getting sluggish, but this was quit the opposite. The 6:30 pace felt completely controlled and easy for the first mile, but then I just started bogging down. Couldn't get cool at all, and just felt generally tired. Have been hoping that getting my average run distance up over my race distance would help with this, but again, just the opposite in race. Will just keep plugging away at the miles for a while and see if I can't start to hold that 6:30 longer and longer into the race.

Probably the highest that I've placed in a race in a while, taking 2nd in my age group. I'll take it!
