Notes

Calves were still not feeling right, but decided to run this race anyway. I was preregistered, and like the Frantic Finish in general. Similar to every year we've run this, rain was a factor, coming down pretty hard for most of the race.

Had just gone to the Good Form Running 'class', and so I was paying particular attention to the details they had emphasized (cadence, posture, turnover, mid-foot strike), and honestly while I had known of each of them before, I think just having them at the front of my mind and concentrating on them really helped during this run. I felt like I was not pushing off quite as hard with my toes, and was definitely turning over my legs faster than normal.

Forgot my watch, which was worse because in this race format, you can't even get a mile time at the markers. First mile I knew I was going fast, because I started catching/passing people almost immediately. Second mile I was still hanging in there pretty well, but was slowing a bit. Calculating with Anna based on her mile times and when I started leads me to believe my time around the 2 mile mark was 14:00, which seems reasonable. I started feeling my calves pretty good, and not wanting to push my luck, I slowed pretty considerably my last mile or so. I don't know that I could have maintained the pace even if my calves weren't an issue, but I just didn't want to risk it.

Post race food was Amie's Pizza Factory. McGurks and Matt Painter both were at the race too and ate with us. We all landed the rebranded Toledo Road Runners shirts as prizes (we were all top 100 finishers?).

Felt fairly decent after the race. Went to volleyball a little later in the evening, and jumping was not so good on my calves, but I think the race wasn't really the issue there, just the jumping. Trying to not lose my conditioning while giving myself a chance to heal is a real pain.

Still love this race!
