COMMENTS: last race of the day, fast heat of the 3200... included giza, deren, pfeiffer and me on the inside and dobby and corey on the outside... went out really conservative while the outside box went nuts so when we merged dobby and corey had about 50m on me... I did not panic though and looked up at the clock and realized that I was actually going too fast... Giza went off with deren trailing while corey ran against the wind all alone in third trying to get 9:35 state qualifier... dobby ran with a JFK kid in 4th and i was a few spots back... kept watching the clock from the 300m mark and figuring out my splits... went really hard in the third and fourth laps to catch dobby and pass a fading corey... then the two of us ran together for the last mile, although it seemed that dobby was going too slow and i felt the urge to pass him... i had decided beforehand not to try anything until the end of the seventh lap so i just watched the clock as we reached lap 8 right on 10-minute pace... then we picked it up but it did not seem as fast as the final time shows... finished 4th about .2 second behind dobby, but i guess i didn't sprint all out on the final straightaway because he had done all the work and deserved to get 3rd... 9:53.56 huge PR, took about 30 secs off the old total... the pain level was highest near the start of the 7th lap... splits (somogyi?) 73.0, 2:29.6, 3:43.8, 4:58.2, 6:13.5, 7:29.6, 8:45.8, 9:53.6 (4:55.4 second mile) (73, 77, 74, 74, 75, 76, 76, 67)... giza first in 9:23 (4:35 split for him and deren), deren second in 9:36, corey fifth in 10:10... guess i'll have to do the mile tomorrow
