Notes

Today we drove to one of Croatia's most famous national parks, Plitvice. It was a gorgeous area with more than waterfalls than you could ever count and sixteen lakes. It was nothing short of exceptional. We walked the paths all morning long and it was fairly crowded. I fantasized about how amazing it would be if this place were empty of tourists and available to run in. It would be a true paradise then! We opted for the long way back to our parking area with a three-mile trip through the beech forest. It was a long, hard 1.5 mile uphill climb with blindingly white rocks all around. This was dolomite and it often looked disturbingly like bleached bones. The gradual downhill back to the car was much appreciated and we didn't see a single soul on this stretch. Best way to get someplace to yourself is to pick someplace hard to negotiate! No running today but a lot of time on feet to be sure.
