Run: Easy Previous Next

Notes

This was was NOT a fun one. It was one of those runs that only happens when you're in training, and was a reminder that not every run is a good one, and sometimes the best part about a run is that it is done and it happened.

Staple 8 mile route west on the Cedar Lake Trail, around hopkins, and back on the Greenway and across Woodale through the neighborhoods and home.

I left XC practice early to go pick up Anders and drive straight to our first wedding counseling session. The session itself was fun, and we're looking forward to our next 3, but it did mean that we weren't home and I wasn't starting my run until about 6:30pm.

At 6:30 it was almost dark, it was windy, it was steadily raining, and I was hungry and ready to be done after a long day. With encouragement and route inspiration from Anders I headed out the door into the rapidly darkening, drenched world. The first half was pretty good with moderate daylight still hanging around and the wind at my back, but the second half was just sorta dreadful. I was running by flashlight, I was running into a brutal and cold headwind as rain pounded my front and my face, and my legs didn't feel healthy. My IT Band didn't hurt, which I'm thankful for, but there were aches and pains all over, I didn't feel confident on my feet or my legs (although this was probably in part because I was running in the dark), and hunger pains and just emotional fatigue from the week.

I was VERY ready to be done by the end. Because of the unhealthy feeling in my legs, I didn't really even have the feeling of accomplishment when I finished.

However, two hours later, sitting on the couch with Anders watching some sports highlights, I was glad it was done.

I guess I'm in training.

LOVE it! Mental toughness builds and complements the physical stamina you are redeveloping. Great work, stud!
