Got up and ran prior to doing a jog about with Tricia this morning. Yarrow was interested in 5 and I was up for a few more so I started a bit earlier. We had also arranged to meet Adam frye. I left out hotel and crossed the highway to a park on the other side. I ran about a mile on a paved bike path that was extremely icy and then hopped on a grass trail. The trail was a narrow frizbee golf course that provided another mile ish loop. Got back to our hotel after 2 and met yarrow and Adam. We ran along a few roads that were also quite icy. Tried a couple different neighborhood roads to see if they were any better but didn't have much luck. Returned after 4 and met Tricia for her 10 minute jog about. I added a little more with Adam after Tricia was done before he headed back towards his hotel, and then yarrow and I got in 2 more while Tricia was rolling out and taking a shower before breakfast. Got 9 in before breakfast and then ran Tricia's 2 mile warm up with her pre race. It may have been a slightly short 9 this morning, but I did enough long sprints during the women's race to make up for a potential missing half mile or so.

The race was a bummer. Tricia was so ready. She's never felt this good this late in the season, she told me that multiple times this weekend. She looked great for the first 3k, running in the second chase pack and sitting about 10th. 3k into the race she got a side ache and panicked and tensed up, and then her body shut down. You could tell immediately something had changed. She looked like she was working harder than anyone around her, her form was forced and choppy, not smooth at all, and she looked panicked and worried mentally. Dropped continuously over the next 3k and finished 36th. Ouch.

She would have been top 10 today, I guarantee it.

If you ask me, more than anything else she needs to work on being calm and relaxed, and especially calming down after any sort of incident. She is incredibly high stress before races, has panic attacks, and becomes nothing like the calm, confident, fierce competitor I know. Today the fitness was there, no question. We need to work on the execution part.

:( What a tough day. I never would have guessed that Tricia struggles with so many mental issues with regards to racing. I hope she can return to form and recover her calm, cool demeanor.
