Notes

There was very little that was good about this run, except that it is over and it counts.

I was laboring even though the pace was slow, everything hurt, I felt not fit, etc, etc, etc.

One conundrum is this: My knee feels better when I run more efficiently, i.e. faster, but my fitness isn't there to support that, so it feel shard. Finally about 4 miles into this run I thought Effff it, just run faster and more efficiently. I immediately felt better and lighter, only to feel exceptionally tired about 1.5 miles later.

It just feels hard. It doesn't feel fun. And I'm so paranoid about my knee and thinking about it every step that its not possible to turn my brain off or enjoy the normal therapeutic parts of running.

UGH. Also, that was an unfocused and redundant rant.

On the positive side, my knee still feels fine, I'm running decent mileage, and the only way to get more fit is to struggle to get there. So here I am, slowly improving everyday. At least that's the hope.

I HEAR YOU, DUDE. I know how frustrating it can be to run in fear of screwing it all up. Straight sucks. I think it's okay to distance run at a faster tempo? You're being careful about varying mileage and taking a day off a week, hopefully sleep is adequate...I guess the only downside is it's uncomfortable to run harder. You're banking fitness with it, no doubt, and hopefully along the way you can run with company here and there to take the mind off the pace and the knee.

You have made such progress. This just sounds like one of those runs where you need a companion to help you forget to worry about your knee and to find the joy in the outing. But I get it. It's hard to embrace an easy effort when that is what makes you more concerned about the knee. Glad you have roller-skiing to complement it and give you another perspective.
