After 24 years I finally broke 5 in the mile. Ran at Bates Middle School in Annapolis on an actual no kidding 440 yd track. A pretty terrible one at that. But great competition.
Out in 74.high/75. Had to pass Gene Severson just before the lap ended. Moved up on the second lap and passed Michael Insler which felt pretty weird. 2:30 at 880 yd. Moved up again on lap three. 3:44 at 1320 yd and at that point I was thinking wow, I think I'm going to do it. Last lap in 74 and may have lost a place. I'm not sure as I was trying so hard to stay upright. 4:58! Still waiting on official results. What a thing to finally do at age 38!
