I have no idea what happened in the last mile. Maybe I was just too complacent?
This is one of the best races that I've ever run. I went out sitting off the back of the 58/59 minute group and thinking that they were too quick. But then I ran right through most of that group. At 3 miles I thought I was in over my head. But it turned out that I wasn't. I ran 6:02 for the Carlinda mile and then 6:07 for mile 8. Mile 9 was faster and I realized I was going to be way under 60. Maybe I left 10 seconds out there or maybe I was just gassed. Probably a bit of each. I'm very happy with this.
