Notes
I ran OK - 5:15 for 3rd place. I felt great and strong throughout, but after the first few seconds I was in third place and never saw anyone else for the rest of the race. 1st and 2nd were out of sight, and 4th, one of my Goddard friends, was 4 seconds behind me at the finish. I went out in a very even 2:36/2:37ish (clock is not visible as one crosses the line) and then shortly after that I started lapping people and ran most of the second half in lane 2 as a result. I ran an OK second half but not as good as last time when I was fighting it out with somebody.
I'm not thrilled with it and I think I can do better with better competition but it really wasn't bad. This is where I usually am in January and usually I can also run around 18:00 for 5k when I'm in this mile shape, and that's not a bad place to be at this time of the year.
So, not my best effort but still three seconds faster than last time. Unlike last time we had a very smooth warm-up and were smart enough to bring water to the holding area. That definitely helped.
