Notes
Indianapolis half marathon. Probably the best race I've run ever, definitely in grad school. Went out in what I thought was too fast, but I now think was just right. I think I shot myself in the foot by running the downhill mile (8) too hard and beating up my quads too much. I got in no-man's land after six miles and was all alone until the last mile when the women's leader and one man passed me. I then got caught with about 200 to go and got into a crazy stretch duel which involved two kicks for both of us, dodging a slow moving fat woman, me losing by inches. It was loads of fun.
Also my right foot went numb around 10 miles. Kinda odd. This was a maxed out effort for me. Perhaps I could have run better had I made certain decisions differently but I did use everything up. Good debut at the distance, certainly, and a learning experience for the future.
Splits:
6:22 (downhill)
6:21 (flat)
6:41 (uphill, Annie fell off)
12:37 (uphill then flat, missed a split)
6:17 (flat)
6:20 (flat, broke away from my pack and one other guy broke from me, leaving me in no-man's land)
6:08 (downhill, trying to close on the pack in front of me)
6:21 (flat)
6:31 (flat, starting to fall apart)
6:54 (uphill the whole way, not feeling good)
6:37 (uphill)
6:40 (flat)
:31 (crazy stretch duel which I lost by a nose)
