Went to Sigourney and ran 5K along with a bunch of family members. Hot day like most July days are in Iowa. Finished second to an up-and-coming racer from Ottumwa named Kevin Lewis. Ran entire race with or slightly behind him and actually caught him at the top of the last hill coming to finish line. He made a rookie mistake of veering left toward the 10k chute. As he did this I passed him to the right. The RD motioned/yelled at him to run to right and into 5K chute and by this time I was past him. I took my hand and guided him in front of me as I slowed down so he would finish first. My mom said she was proud of me for doing this as she knew how competitive I was. I told her I thought it would mean more to a 15 year old to win a race than a 42 year old man. But I also told her I must be getting soft in my old age. She just smiled.
Brandon finished 6th overall despite stopping 3x to puke. I watched him puke the last 2 times coming up the last hill and told him "It cost you two places" then explained that is why you didn't eat a big breakfast prior to running a 5K in the heat. He will learn.
Overall a great race, great atmosphere and got to visit with a bunch of people I had not seen in many years. Went to my 25 year class reunion that night and had a good time.
