Notes

Decided mid-week to come down and do this race as the middle portion of my weekend long run.

4.7 mile warm up then go to the start line about 10 min early; Stand around for 20+ min while RD drones on..............Finally asks everyone if they were warmed up and ready to go. In my best deadpan voice I look at Tjarrta and say "I was 10 min ago; not so much now".

Small crowd. Only person I recognize is Peter Tjarrta, a Semo Tri team member I met about a month ago. Chatting with him as race director finally decides to line up the Team Triumph rollers and lets them get about a 30 second head start on rest of the group prior to our start.

Looks like a bunch of teenage boys are the competition; one or two of them MAY be shaving every week or so at this point. We take off and I stay behind a group of three younguns for first 1000 m while watching the leader put about 15 seconds on us while running at 6:30 pace. Move past the three boys, accelerate slightly and stay behind the leader through the first 1.1 miles while slowly pulling up to his left shoulder. Name is John Myer and I chat with him for about 30 seconds while running south on Ashley Street then tell him so long; he is a Sikeston sophomore who is an 800/miler this year.

First mile = 6:14. Running into cross wind as soon as turning south then straight into 10+ mph wind when turning back north on Floyd Street. 2nd mile = 6:12; In the lead by about 30 seconds and time to back it down as 2 mile faster portion of run in the books. 3rd mile slows to 6:35 then final .17 mile in 1:04 for 6:16 pace and cross line at 20:05.

Walk for about 30 seconds then head out for a twenty minute cool down. Another 2.3 miles and 14 cents found lying around in the Sikeston HS parking lot.

Another season with an overall win in the books. Slow field and wouldn't have had anything for anyone wanting to run faster than a mid-19 min today.... oh well, I guess they are all in Cape working on a belt buckle today.

I have some mental work to do along with more quality training prior to my Azalea key race.

CBEGM puts another OA in the books and got a good, quality long run in today of 10+ miles.
