Notes

Got up at 5:20, left the house at 6 to pick Robert up and then drove to the Svc station on 128 where me met Goose, Jan Holmquist and John Ayers. It was a long drive down. The weather was predicted to be hot and very humid. We got there about 8, got our numbers and stayed in the shade. Decided to wear lighter shoes. We stood waiting for the gun to go off in the heat and already started sweating. I went out at a conservative pace and was far back, behind many Whirlaway teammates. The first half mile was downhill so felt comfortable. The rest of the way was rolling hills with little or no shade. I mostly passed people, but by the third mile was starting to feel the heat. I got water whenever they had a stop. I passed Paul at around the 4 mile mark and could see Doug and Dave Oliver up ahead. I never did manage to catch them. The last mile was brutal. A lot of people were walking at this point or at the side of the road. There was an uphill and then a downhill to the school and then to the finish. I did score for the team. They had my gun and chip time the same, but there is no way I started at the front. It was about 10 seconds diff. I did about a 2 miles cool down. Then we hung out in the parking lot for about an hour or so. Last ones to leave. Team placed 2nd in both masters and seniors - I scored for both. Our open team won outright. Another race in 2 weeks. 10 miler in NH. Not sure I will do it.
