Bike to Figment DC on the waterfront. Weird, artsy. Bike to safeway. Bike STOLEN. Call 911. Officer on the scene asks me if I'd like to take a ride to look for it. Yes, I would. Within 10 minutes, I spot it. People stooping, and a kid sitting on MY BIKE under a street lamp. Officer throws on lights, siren, screeches to a halt, jumps out, kid tries to run, officer grabs him and... commotion I can't see, happening on the back of the car. Kid is arrested. I have my bike. People stooping have no reaction to any of this. There's a toddler out there. Bike doesn't fit in cruiser, so I ride out of the projects with a police escort. Holy holy. So happy to have my bike, but... wow.
