Michael's Harbor-side 1/2 at Newburyport

47 out of 714 (13 out of 82 in age group)

Official time: 1:35:18 (7:17)

Cold start to this one. Wasn't sure I was going to get to run this one with achillies and PF issues. Warmed up and it felt OK, so I decided to give it a go. With little speed work and still trying to figure out this "new form" thing, I didn't have huge expectations (hoping to PR and be around 1:35). I decided to run with the metronome and do the best I could to hold form, cadence and lean - even if it was ugly. No going back on this thing, I AM changing how I run.

Started off OK - really felt comfortable and got into a good groove right away - this form thing is getting better. I felt real good throughout this race to be honest - didn't really feel taxed at all. Beginning to believe in what Jared is feeding me about this thing. The course was really nice and I ran with two guys pretty much the whole way here. We bantered about for the first 10 or so and then the race was on.

I turned the corner after the 10 mile mark and saw Tom Chase in front of me - figured I would do my best to reel him in and say goodbye to my newfound friends. Cadence was becoming real hard to hold around mile 11 and at 12, I was getting closer to Tom - so I decided to stride out and try to reel him in. Went anaerobic for the first time and give it what I had to try and catch him - ditched my two friends, but just couldn't catch Tom - Damn.

This was a good time - met Holly and Dean before and after the race. Good first year event. I was hoping to do a bit better to be honest, but really happy with this effort. I had no issues with my foot, I kept my form for most of the race and I PR'd - All in all, a good day.
