Notes

Official time of 32:45 and a much faster time than I expected since I haven’t ran a sub 11 min pace since my last 5K race back on February 1st! Just goes to show you, running slow does make you faster!

The first half mile was very crowded so it was hard to get by anyone. Of course this is sometimes a good thing because it prevents me from going out too fast, especially since this was a downhill start. Around a half mile, it started thinning out enough where I could settle into my own pace and for 2 miles I felt really really good! I couldn’t believe how consistent I was for mile 1 and mile 2 with a 10:16 for each and I was thinking I feel great and can do this for one more mile. Of course the second I said that, I made that turn and there it was...the first uphill! That’s when everything changed. My body temp skyrocketed and my legs just turned to jello. From that point on, it was hard to keep an 10:30 pace but I kept repeating mantras in my head and made it over the second and final hill before heading downhill and into football stadium. Then it was a 50 yard dash on astroturf which surprisingly is more difficult to run on than I thought.

It felt so good to run a sub 33 min 5K in a summer race, something I’ve only done twice before! Of course the humidity levels were no where near as bad as they have been which helped tremendously.
