Run: Hill Sprints Previous Next

12/10/2013

8.5 mi

Notes

Tuesday: 8 miles with 8-10x hill blasts. 2-3 strides before the hills

I forgot my watch...so I will make the write-up a little more detailed.

It took all 3 miles of the warmup to actually warmup. On the way down to Cherokee there were a few patches of ice that I had to navigate, and cutting through McCabe was a little icy, as well.

I started to wonder how bad the hill might be, but I figured it would be ok, since it would have some car traffic. Murphy was fine to run on, and I was able to get in all 3 strides/pick-ups. But when i got to my hill, I realized it was pretty shaded and still had ice on the wide shoulder. I did a little exploring and settled on the 37th hill. It wasn't as quite as steep, but it was ice-free and it was still a hill.

Around #6, I started to wonder how many I had in me, and after #7, I had to give myself a mini pep talk. Once #8 was over, I felt better. #9 and #10 were hard, and I actually wanted to sit down for a little after #10, but I just walked it back down the hill and started into the slow cooldown once I was back on Murphy.

The hill sprints still put a whooping on me, and I am pretty hungry right now.

The cooldown was good, I just let my mind wander about a few things and tried to avoid the ice on the way back. The 3 mile cooldowns and 8 miles runs are getting to be a little routine, and it's not as mentally "daunting" anymore. After these hill sprints, I used to think "now I have to run 3 more miles?", now I just knock it out.
