Didn't hit a PR here like I was hoping for, but I DID come in as the first adult finisher (and as such, first in my age group), which is a total first for me. Definitely happy with that! Humbling moment of this race was being totally destroyed by a 12 year old middle schooler. He started off pretty quickly and I though, as is typical for kids his age, that he'd tucker out and be done by the end of mile one. That didn't end up being the case. This kid kept moving forward like a rocket all the way to the end... amazing! Apparently he forgot to grab a timing chip though, so he didn't show up on the official results. As such, on paper, I came in third place.
It was a challenging course. The last half mile or so was uphill. The incline was slight, but after setting out at my max 5K pace, it totally gassed me trying to close the race out, which is why I came in over 7 minutes.
All in all though, it was a great race. I'll definitely come back next year and make this a tradition.
