5 of 9 top finishers were women? Personally I think that's pretty cool.
Personally I think it's proof that women really do "go on and on... and on... and on" ( Tongue )

Actually ultra-endurance is one area where women can compete equally with men. Pam Reed won Badwater in 2002 and 2003. Not the women's division, but overall winner. 5 of 9 top finishers were women? Personally I think that's pretty cool.
Just think about this! Jamie, beat Pam’s record time by more than 1 hour and yet she still finished 3.5 hours behind the winner(Not a record time) this year. These women are close to the best men but there still is a decent gap between the top men and the top women. I fully expect that to change next year. I have no doubt that Jamie can win the thing outright. It wouldn't surprise me if she breaks 24 hours next year. When she does that she will go down in history as the greatest Ultra runner ever(Man or Woman)!

Sorry for bumping this again guys.... I still can't get over the women's performances in that race...and Jamie's pace at the end was absolutely astonishing. I think I'm going to have to go and lie down.

Some good stuff here and last year's winner. I have met Lisa Bliss and she is a sweetheart! Also, Lisa Smith-Batchen finishing a DOUBLE Badwater in 2006. Haven't watched all of this, but Women's record holder (as of 2008) Jamie Donaldson's version of Badwater... Enjoy! Lynn B MTA: FIXED!

Lynn, not sure if it's just me, but I can't get the first 2 links to work. 3rd one is fine. Thanks for sharing!

The third link is for last year’s BadWater. That video is hard for me to watch! Jamie always has said that the 2007 race was devastating to her. She said over the last year that the 07 race had consumed her. Hopefully, now she can put those memories behind her! This page has all of the 2008 coverage! http://www.badwater.com/2008web/ Here are the 2008 videos http://www.badwater.com/2008web/video/index.html#donaldsonFinish

Yep, I knew Jamie's video was from 2007, just throwing stuff out there. Good stuff! BTW: What's your double stroller mile PR? Awesome SSMPR!

My double stroller mile PR is a 5:09 with a 2.5 year old and a 4.5 year old. That 5k course had a half mile of flat to start and then went down a hill for half a mile. I hit 14 mph on that hill and I was in first place at the mile marker! It was funny because the eventual winner of the race panicked when I took off at the ½ mile mark. He actually thought I was going to sustain 5 flat for the rest of the race! Here is the speed and elevation profile from that race!

How bout this one? That was with the single stroller on a dirt Bridle trail! I passed a low 14’s 5k guy at the .6 mile mark. I asked him for directions at 15 mph! You should have seen his face! If only I could pass Jamie at mile 122 of 135 like that! That would be a real accomplishment. Although, running Badwater with a toddler in a stroller would probably be frowned upon, right?
