Notes
Cold (mid-20's) but beautiful morning. This is probably the toughest 10k course I've ever run. Two very tough hills; one at about 3 miles, one at 5 miles. I felt like I was recovering a bit after the first one, settling into a groove, but the 2nd hill caught me by surprise and wiped out my legs. I sort of gave up the fight at that point and brought it home pretty slowly. Still have trouble breathing, too. Had a coughing fit after the race. I actually ran past the turn for the finish line & had to turn around, which cost me a little time (maybe 10-15 seconds.) Not having raced a 10k since late 2009, I wasn't expecting much, but I did hope to go sub-45. On this course, though (and still fighting this illness), that would have been tough.
I'm running another 10k next month, on a relatively flat course. If I can shake this chest junk by then (and get my legs back), I should run faster.
Time—45:36
Splits—7:20, 6:53, 7:28, 7:16, 7:15, 7:22, 7:24 pace for last .27
No idea yet where I finished overall or by division. Nowhere near the ribbons, though!
