I had some mild ITBS issues a few months ago, and I started getting regular massage work from my wife (a certified therapist) on my legs. It hurts like hell when she works her magic, but it's helped tremendously. Not sure if you have tried this, but figured I'd issue my two cents into the foray.

I use a foam roller. I'm told that is similar to deep tissue. I know that it is very painful when you first start.
