Far more than the tournament rules went against us. But best I not start on this...
And if the rules were the higher placed in the group, it would have still been England. Most world champions in most sports have luck go their way.
In cricket I would say only West Indies 75 and 79, and Australia 87, 03 and 07 did not need luck. I include home advantage in luck here.
Also, cricket is number two, even if half the followers are from India:

And if the team that lost more wickets loses, like has been the case since forever, we would have won. They got bowled out and awarded the trophy...come on. Not to mention the Jason Roy LBW first ball of the innings. The 6 overthrows off the bat that was pure luck at the worst possible time, except that the rules of the game said it was 5 with Stokes at the non-strikers end (umpires spent 5 minutes watching replays and STILL got it wrong). If the rules were applied correctly, we win. That's why it's an injustice, not the fact that an obscure rule in the event of a tie gave them the trophy.
...aaaand I started. At least we have the trophy for real cricket.

They were all out last ball. I don't think wickets is much better for limited overs as a measure, although boundaries is very weird.
We had a lot of bad luck that day.
In an alternative world, the India round Robin game was played and we lost and so didn't make the playoffs. Or the round Robin rules were not net run rate and instead were head to head, and therefore we did not make the playoffs.
We had good luck in the round Robin. And terrible luck in the final.
By memory we challenged the Roy decision, and it was umpires call. So it was not a bad umpire call, just a 50/50 that didn't go our way.
You sound like Tim Paine complaining about how Australia didn't make the WTC final due to bad luck
Yes they did get bowled out. Review the scorecard. Edit: ha, you reviewed and edited. No team that gets bowled out has ever ‘won’ a match before.
Even Aussies were disgusted! But let’s move on. I did some speed today. Glad it didn’t snap my hammy after so much easy pace.
The match was actually a tie.
Also looking at Twenty20 world cups, England 2010 also didn't need luck.
Anyhow, weather forecast really sucks for Saturday.

20/20 is the indoor cricket of cricket. I know it was a tie. Which is why I said 'won' in quotes. Thanks to an atrocious umpires decision in the last over.
Zeb that is a busy fall schedule. Sleep is good thing! hope you got rested up.
RP Flavio Keen nice week
We were supposed to be on vacation this week and headed to Kentucky to visit the inlaws unfortunately my wife has been sick for the last week with an apparent cold (not Covid) and is suffering from a muscle strain in her back. To top it off we are trying to finalize some things with the remodel on our condo so here we are on Wednesday and still at home. We are supposed to meet our GC today so hopefully we will be leaving in the morning. I may try and get 1 more run in today I know once we are in KY I won't be able to run much if at all.

Problem Child
wait, so there are three world championships of cricket and the same teams play in all three and if the team that lost the most wickets loses you win. Am I understanding this clearly? Oh and the score is based off the percentage of points you won divided by the number of players on your team based on the total number of games you play. Yeah I can see why it's so popular. I think JMac might enjoy following it just for the data analysis. meanwhile...in MY brain... Can't you keep it simple with something easy like F1 racing, or NASCAR where everyone goes left until the checkered flag is waved? Yellow means caution, green means go, red means stop.
Oh look, right after this big upset there is a different way to keep score.
The International Cricket Council has tweaked the points system for the next World Test Championship.
Twelve points will be awarded to the winning team of every test match contested in the 2021-23 cycle, with four points awarded for a draw and six for a tied game. The percentage of points won will be used to determine the WTC standings.
Cricket’s governing body issued a statement Wednesday saying the change was made to simplify things. Under the previous system, the same number of points were allocated to each series, but divided across the number of matches played.
“During the pandemic we had to change to ranking teams on the points table using the percentage of available points won by each team, since all series could not be completed,” ICC acting chief executive Geoff Allardice said. “This helped us determine the finalists and we were able to complete the championship within the scheduled time frame.”
Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

Zeb - I forgot to mention that your coach twisting your ears for not following the plan was hilarious.
That is certainly a problem I do not have, I run exactly what’s prescribed and not a meter more.
Keen - winter is already finished here after lasting the whole of 2 weeks. It’s t-shirt weather again.
Cricket - I'm not sure Cricket should be considered the #2 most popular sport. it's basically India and a couple more commonwealth nations.
Nobody even knows it exists outside of maybe 10 countries.
A true ranking of most popular sports would have slots 1 to 10 used up by Football, then 11th onwards for the other sports.
Football is the main religion and part of the daily vocabulary in the vast majority of countries.

Football is first for sure.
You have to go off people. American Football is something like 9th, but is pretty much one country..

TBH I think "is it at the Olympics" is probably an important qualifier. I mean, if synchronised swimming is an Olympic sport, and cricket isn't... probably tells you something about the relative global popularity / reach of cricket (that or the ICC and/or BCCI are doing a terrible job of lobbying to get it in).

"CONSISTENCY IS KING"
I think JMac might enjoy following it just for the data analysis.
JMac would go nuts over it. The potential for statistical analysis is basically limitless.
Also the athleticism of each sport. If dancing in a pool with your friends is more athletic than your "sport" you might as well compare it to Go Fish and Solitaire.
I suspect it is more that they cannot figure out who bribes who

a) As a member of one under-respected sport, I would like to defend another. Synchro is really demanding. When I pool-run I sometimes watch the kids train. That is grueling anaerobic work that they are doing under those smiles and make-up. A friend has offered to give me a lesson or two in synchro. I haven't taken her up on it yet - I might be too old to handle it.
b) I believe inclusion in the Olympics hinges not on how many people worldwide care about a sport, but rather how many countries will compete in that sport. So something that is very popular in a few ginormous countries (India) but not followed by much of the world will find it hard to get approved.
Additionally, the Olympics are trying to really limit the total # of competitors - hence things like smaller gymnastics and equestrian teams so that you can have the same # of competitors with more nations included. And that plays into a reluctance to add sports with 15 member teams when you can add a sport where each country sends 1-2 people.
Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.
And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.
