            Good job on your first race.

            pr's 5k 20.08, 5 mile 31:20, 10k  41.19  all done in the 80's

              You look like you're having a blast.

               

              As far as the length of the course, they measure it along the shortest distance through the turns etc - within the parameters of the course.

               

              See how wide you went through the turn in the photo?  If you do that multiple times, you're Garmin is going to reflect what you ran, not the actual distance of the course. 

               

              In a marathon, I try to run the tangents (cut the corners while staying on course), but will still typically show about 26.37 miles on my Garmin rather than 26.2, which is the actual distance of the race.  

               

              Now you can use this information in your next race and trim a little off your overall time, providing you can get through some of the traffic jams going around turns......
