Forums >Running 101>Would you count training runners longer than 26.2 miles as "marathons"?
Consistently Slow
Racing as nothing to do with pace.

PS: I do not count 26.2 mile trainng runs as marathon. I did count my 6:45 trail marathon along side my 3:37 BQ. Same effort. Different result.
Run until the trail runs out.
SCHEDULE 2016--
The pain that hurts the worse is the imagined pain. One of the most difficult arts of racing is learning to ignore the imagined pain and just live with the present pain (which is always bearable.) - Jeff

do you count time trails as races?
And we run because we like itThrough the broad bright land
I wouldn't call a time trial a race, but I would count it for PB purposes.
do you know if the course is accurate?
Feeling the growl again
Sometimes. I just give it an authoritative sounding name like "Blame Spaniel 5K" and try to get some local idiots to join me on the track.
I only log them as a race if I'm doing it because I can't find a race I can get to when I need one, and approach it just like I would a race.

Maybe not that race / time trial, but others leading up to it.
yyee, no not as a race but OK as a "PR"
Can I count my 1:47:15 second half of a marathon as a PR? Ran a negative split.
Some do, I wouldn't.
Only morons run that far in training runs.
Only morons run that far.

Gray area for sure. As long as it's accurate and not aided. On another site several years ago we had a PR list and several posters - some national class used race splits as PRs and no one raised a fuss.
If the split is certified/known to be accurate, and not aided (i.e. downhill) no problem. My 10 mile PR is still a split from a half marathon, mostly because the few actual 10 mile races I've run have been in mid winter or mid summer.
But if your half PR is from the 2nd half of a marathon I'd say its time to go race a half. That should be one soft PR.
Runners run
Word.

If I ran 26.2 miles I would count it as a miracle.
