Think we can have agreement between us in the second sentence, without being as dismissive as the statement in the first. My mistake was stating an absolute "no elected official..." when making a general statement on policy decisions effecting the general population along the "overall timeline".
Dismissive? That wasn't my intention. I thought I explained my rationale for disagreeing in plenty of detail.
Where I think me and you differ most is on whether the most effective response needs to originate at the national or state and local level?
I guess so. To me, responding to a global pandemic pretty much by definition requires a national, coordinated response, and the resources that only the federal government can bring to bear. It seems really obvious to me that a more competent response from the federal government and even really basic things like not turning mask-wearing or social distancing into a signifier in some idiotic culture war would have saved many tens of thousands of lives. Alas.
FWIW, have to attribute a significant degree of my ability so far to avoid C19, along with other maladies, to the level of my overall health. That level would not be possible without the benefits of the years of running. You (mikeymike) contributed often with guidance when I was a newbie twelve years ago, and were a big influence when learning how to do this in a manner that was sustainable for the long haul. I thank you for that.
This is good to hear and you're quite welcome. I've had to relearn how to keep running sustainable for the long haul a few times as the years, miles and little injuries have piled up. I did a lot less running and a lot more biking this past summer than what had been "normal" but my Wednesday morning trail runs in particular (along with some long bike rides) were a huge part of staying sane. My only real running goals anymore are to always stay fit enough that I can go out and comfortably run 10 miles if the weather demands it. I'm back to shopping for ski gear to have something to look forward to outdoors this winter. Kinda considering getting a backcountry setup so I can really social distance if I want to. Keep on truckin.

Anyone seeing an increase in travel ads on TV? Baltimore has a terrible one, it's a bunch of snippets pieced together. Today I saw a commercial for Lancaster County, PA. PA requires either a negative test or 14 day quarantine for anyone coming into the state unless it's for work or medical reasons.

Vegas keeps giving out deals and the state has them limited to 25% capacity. Great time to go to Vegas unless you remember they have a stay at home order and you’d probably have to quarantine when you show up or go home.
Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

Like it or not they aren’t mandatory and the same people without a flu shot will be in public without a Covid 19 shot. Funny how I can’t go to work in a mask, BUT I can go anywhere else with a mask. My office has individual cubicles. Our inspectors can’t go into the field by themselves due to Covid. Yeah. Vaccines are going to make Joe Biden look like our savior even though it was developed under Donald Trump.
My running partner was talking about how he had employees who didn’t have internet so they were on admin. I told him I’d MOVE there in my trailer if I got admin leave due to no internet. ‘Well you’d be the first one back when the office opens.’ Office still closed. Mighty nice admin leave.

I FULLY expect society to let their guard down MORE now that the vaccine was announced. ‘Oh they have a vaccine so why wear a mask?’ is what I expect most people not wearing masks and spreading the virus to say. Regardless of political affiliation. High risk or not. The vaccine is here and will save us all even when 60% of people don’t get it and those who have had COVID 19 don’t need it. I’ll ignore the ‘I’m not getting it for political reason’ crowd. SOOOOO there is a very small percentage of the population that needed to be vaccinated before life could go back to being normal. Too bad so much had to suffer to get there.
Don't get your hopes up, it's not likely that the general public will reach any sort of herd immunity much before Summer. I'm at high risk and doubt I'll see a first dose of a vaccine before Spring.
I delete emails daily from the casinos in Vegas and Atlantic City. I think there was only a very short period this summer when Maryland was not on the NJ quarantine list. You would think with all the money the casinos spend on advertising, they would target their promotions to people in states that actually are allowed.

I am not sure what you "fixed". I am consistently critical of bad behavior regardless of political affiliation. But you seem completely blinded by your Trump hatred to the point you can't see past it, and attach any disagreement with your position to it. You consistently support an "ends justifies the means" philosophy, defending any behavior consistent with your beliefs, regardless of the long-term consequences of supporting anti-Constitutional behavior. Your state's Supreme Court has ruled the Governor's behavior un-Constitutional, but you continue to rally about them preventing her from "protecting you". So you advocate for tyranny inconsistent with the state Constitution while ripping Trump for similar behavior.
Here's a thought -- outside of totalitarian regimes with the ability to completely control their people in a way not consistent with our Constitution, no country has been able to contain this virus and guarantee the population's safety. So your best bet is to take ownership of your own safety and stop crutching it on the government. My parents have spent 10 months in complete isolation, it sucks but it's effective. Locally the school situation just reached the point we are electing to pull our kids out until we see how things go after the New Year, cases are just too high to think it isn't coming home within weeks at most. They hate it but it is what it is.
Shun contact, get vaccinate when it's available to you. Abandon the illusion that a Democrat in charge (or a cloth mask) is going to create some miracle difference in what is going to happen over the next few months. It is a medical miracle that we now have an approved vaccine which will soon be making a difference. It's a fact this was enabled by Trump's administration. It's sickening to see people so filled with hate that they can't appreciate how special this is and need to politicize it. You don't need to like him to appreciate how exceptional this vaccine development experience has been.
So Biden is going to come in with his mask mandate. We already have mask mandates. I ask you, unless we have the Mask Gestapo arresting/fining people, what is the change from the status quo? Bought a vehicle today, we wore our masks plenty of people in/around the dealership weren't taking it too seriously. What's really going to change?

To add onto this - the government structure best suited to control a pandemic is one that is both totalitarian and completely honest/open with its citizens. I doubt such a beast will ever exist.
Also, to sorta jump onto Spaniel's point...I've been struck by the substantial overlap between a) those critical of our outgoing president (as am I) and b) those who are frustrated with Constitutional limitations. Why, coming out of this administration, would you ever be in favor of LESS restrictions on government, as opposed to more?

Atlantic City? I thought that place was dead. Nevada's Governor was asked a question about tourists staying in casinos when the Governor was telling everyone to stay home and not go out unless it's essential. He backtracked/realized his error REAL quick and said ALL states are ALLOWED to spend their money in Nevada and stay in our hotels if they're willing to follow our COVID 19 protocols. Thank GOD no negative test is required to show up to Las Vegas.

The counties not flagged don't have testing capabilities because of how rural they are/ I think one county went the entire season without single positive test. Easy to do when you don't test people, or people don't get tested.

Wasn't there just a recent Cruise COVID 19 outbreak? I remember hearing about people being stuck on cruise ships back in March - May due to COVID 19 spreads. Couldn't get off the boat anywhere so they just sat there.
RP, there are still a handful of casinos in AC. They had 2 new ones open in 2018, well, not brand new, but at least empty ones were opened as something else. DH has a friend that lives up there, so we were going up every few months. I also liked doing the spring HM they have because the elevation chart looks like this------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
There has been a half marathon in Vegas around April that looks like \_/\. Been there, done that. Not a fun little residential hill they put in for the final two miles or so before the FINAL final mile.
This one is really & truly flat. The only "hill" is the ramp on and off the boardwalk. For the entire race, there is 3 feet in elevation change.
