James - Good week. Kiwi points near 160 is just nasty. We've only had a couple days above 150 so far this summer, but I'm afraid that's going to end on Wednesday.
Piwi - Good week, and awesome that you're making progress with the calf and not having more issues with it. You've got a point regarding not remembering all the sleepless nights when kiddos are young - a person really just ends up forgetting all of that.
DPS - Good to know you're still hanging in there with the new kiddo. WFH half the time must be really nice. Still killing it in the mileage department, too.
Mark - Awesome week, and those 400s are SO fast. Dang. Glad the new osteo seems to be working for you.
Flavio - Glad you're seeing some good progress building back the miles.
DWave - Good week again. What's it going to look like for you/your team once those practices start up again?
JMac - Things pretty much set for the baby's arrival? How're you liking the reduced mileage?
Watson - Go get it at the race!!!
It seems like it's happening quickly, but I think I'm getting used to this two workouts per week thing. I certainly helps when I don't completely overdo things on the first workout of the week. Currently thinking about signing up for Boise/Onward Shay! (Oct 25), Indy Monumental (Nov 7), or the White River (Nov 21) marathons. Indy would probably be my preferred race of the three since I'd have more company throughout, but I've done White River before (PR 2 years ago) and it would be the easiest logistics wise (even if it does turn into essentially a supported solo effort).

Sunshine or shade makes a big difference, though. About 2/3 of my easy run route is in the shade, and on hot days, the shaded areas feel at least 10 degrees cooler than the sunny areas. This morning was cloudy, and even though the TDP was 150-153, it didn't feel too bad.
Post-1987 PRs: Half 1:30:14 (2019); 10K 39:35 (2019); 5K 19:12 (2017); Mile 5:37.3 (2020)
'24 Goals: consistency, age-graded PRs, half < 1:32
James - shade helps a ton but at some point there's just nothing you can do. My workout partners were just discussing moving start time from 6AM back to 5AM just to have a little cooler weather. We had a nice solid 68F this morning... coupled with 100% humidity. ugg I am so ready for fall. Our big debate was when we came back from the warm up and were doing strides, was it cooler because it was shaded and actually cooler ... or was it just a figment of our imagination caused by the workouts not having started yet.
RIP Milkman
Yeah I've realized angle of the sun actually matters even more. Running at 5 PM when it is generally 5-7 degrees hotter than Noon is still WAY better. I did that yesterday when it was 90 at 5 PM, it was much better than my run on Thursday that I did exactly at solar noon at cooler temps. I'm also convinced that 90 plus 60 DP is better than 80 plus 70. Anytime those DPs reach 70+ it's a nightmare.

Keen - the GPS glitches on the track make my 400m pace look considerably faster than it actually is! It was a good session though. Good to hear the two workouts per week are starting to work for you (excuse pun). Was that White River race the one where it was really foggy? It sounded fun.
Watson - yuss! Races!
Hot days - time of day definitely plays a big part, as JMac says. If you can get out early or late, it's way easier than when the sun is directly overhead.
3,000m: 9:07.7 (Nov-21) | 5,000m: 15:39 (Dec-19) | 10,000m: 32:34 (Mar-20)

Agreed.
Mark - It's a bit tough to tell exactly on Strava, but I was looking at about when the 400s started/stopped (judging by pace/cadence) and the elapsed times at those points. What were the actual splits for those?Yeah, White River was the foggy (and cold!) one.

Here's an article by Alex Hutchinson talking about this -- how radiant energy plays a big role in comfort, and humidity probably more than temperature. They suggest that the present standard, wet bulb globe temperature, doesn't fully capture the effect of the sun's energy. Unfortunately, the alternative, physiologically equivalent temperature, is complex to calculate, so not much use to runners for now.

Hot days....I miss them...
Here in belfast (as flavio would know) it's summer, but we have 12-16degrees and clouds and rain and wind
I know sound nice if you are in the heat, and I would probably contradict myself if I was in Italy now, but it's hard to get out in the grey and cold weather every day
PRs since re-started in 2013:
5km: 19:43 (Belfast park run Sep-16) | 10km: 40:16 (Belfast Lagan side 10K Sep-18)
HM: 1:30:09 (Belfast city Half Marathon, September-18) | FM: 3:25:05 (official chip time Belfast city Marathon, May-19, marathon was 0.3/4 longer, original time 3:27:20 for 26.5/6...)
